Change-detection tools — Visualping, Distill, a pile of Chrome extensions — are built around a page you named. You type a URL, optionally pick a region of the screenshot or a CSS selector, and they tell you when that region moved. That is the right product for competitor homepages, regulatory pages, restock watchers and “tell me when this paragraph changes”.

Two jobs that share a fetch

RotSweep is built around a list. The list is usually outbound: affiliate offers, supplier product pages, documentation references, citations, directory entries. You do not care about a pixel shift in the header. You care whether the URL still resolves to the page you meant, or broke, or 301’d to somewhere useless, or kept its URL while dropping the thing you linked to.

When Visualping or Distill is the right tool

Screenshot diffs. Selected regions. Restock and price watchers. “Alert me if this competitor homepage moves.” Browser macros. If that is the job, use them. We do not screenshot, we do not do visual diffs, and we do not summarise the change with a model.

When outbound monitoring is the right tool

“I have 400 URLs I do not control, and I need one email when one of them stops being what I meant.” That is outbound monitoring. Redirects followed to the end. Content fingerprinted. A digest, and silence otherwise. The three failure modes are the whole product.

We are not a screenshot diff
