changedetection.io is a good piece of software. It watches web pages for content changes, can run Playwright, and you can self-host it for free or pay for the hosted version. If you want restock alerts, price drops, or “tell me when this page moves” on a machine you control, start there.
What changedetection.io is
A page-diff watcher. You name pages. It tells you when they changed, with optional browser rendering, selectors, and self-hosting. That is a real job. It is not outbound-link health.
What RotSweep is
A hosted monitor for lists of URLs you depend on — usually outbound — that classifies each one as healthy, broken, destination-drifted or content-drifted, and emails a digest when something changed. Redirect-following to the final URL is a first-class check, on every plan. Accept-as-baseline is a first-class action. Silence when nothing changed is a product rule. How the fingerprint works.
Self-host or not
We do not self-host. If that is a requirement, use changedetection.io. We will not argue. We host in the EU, bill in EUR, invoice VAT correctly, and keep the entry plan at €5. Documentation teams, affiliate publishers and SEO agencies who want a digest rather than a docker compose file are the reason it exists.

Use both if the jobs are both real. Use one if only one of the jobs is real. The mistake is buying a page-diff tool to watch 400 affiliate URLs, or buying RotSweep to screenshot a competitor homepage. The other neighbour in this category is Visualping, which is also a named-page watcher, hosted.

Can I self-host RotSweep?
No. We run it, in the EU. changedetection.io is the self-hosted answer if you want page diffs on your own box.
Is RotSweep cheaper than hosted changedetection?
Different meter. They charge around a page-check product. We charge per workspace, metered on URLs, from €5/month, with content drift on Deep Sweep or as a €6 add-on. Compare against the job, not the sticker.
